Kamisama ga Uso wo Tsuku - 1

Well, a short series from Ozaki-sensei is better than nothing.

It's a little strange to see Kaori Ozaki tackling something so down-to-earth. Kamisama, unlike Immortal Rain, is about a normal boy, Natsuru, who lives a more or less ordinary life with his single mother, a mangaka. Things get a little more interesting when his classmate, Suzumura, becomes involved with him and shares an important secret with him about her lifestyle.

Things have a bit of a dark undertone, however. For example, Natsuru's soccer coach is in the hospital for cancer, the same disease that killed his father, and his new coach is obsessed with winning and insensitive to boot, calling Natsuru pitiful for lacking a father. Suzumura's secret too is out of the ordinary; she claims to live alone with her little brother Yuuzu, but is what she says really true? Could it be that her home life is simply too painful for her that she prefers acting as if she and her brother are the only ones there? After all, someone has to pay the rent and electricity, and while the idea of living alone seems to intrigue Natsuru, Suzumura's expression doesn't at all express happiness at her situation.

It will be interesting to see where Ozaki-sensei goes with this; she tends to go for dark material, so I will be entirely surprised if things are as clear cut as she seems to want to make us believe with this first chapter.
