Scanlation Progress

I realize it's been a while, but I'd like to announce that LoQ's episodic reviews are officially on hiatus until further notice. On the other hand, all other functions on the site are coming back as of this week, namely, scanlations. I've had a difficult few weeks since school let out so I'm fairly behind for personal reasons, but I plan to get New Order done within the next month and start working on AO and translating the Niji novel.

Translator Notes: There were a couple of phrases I struggled with, particularly on page 24. The original Japanese said something along the lines of "insane retaliation, but we'll eat it", which I couldn't make much sense of, so I did my best. In any case, I hope you'll enjoy the chapter, other than that line, everything is business as usual.

Translator Notes: There were a few odd translations in this chapter, especially where Holland expresses disappointment. He uses the term 「間違える」, which means "a mistake", but it's a little vague as to whether he means Renton made a mistake or they made a mistake in trusting him. I also want to thank Efter for her work in scanning and cleaning this chapter, without her this would have taken much longer despite being a short one. Other than that, apologies for the wait, and please enjoy the chapter!

Many thanks to Efter for cleaning half the chapter in order to speed things up a bit; it was still slow work on my part, unfortunately, but you helped a ton!

Translation Notes: I don't know why, but characters in AO talk a lot more than they do in New Order. It's always so technical and full of jargon that it takes me double the time to translate here compared to a chapter in the latter, and this one even has furigana!

In other news, it looks like Renton's thigh fetish manifested itself in Ao's genes. He gets lots of bishounen expressions this time around too *cough*NarcissictAo*cough*.

Manga & Scanlation Updates

Lovely, aren't they?

All three of the new Eureka Seven manga (NO, AO, and Save a Prayer) are releasing next Saturday. Yours truly has NO and AO preordered, and I know that Efter and the other /a/ scanlators are working on SaP. Either way, rest assured, you will have your fill of both New Order and Astral Ocean for the rest of the summer. This is the final volume of NO, and also the volume of AO where the most horribly painful event in the E7 multiverse occurs. You'll cry for both.

AO 7 is being cleaned and should be translated by next week.

Translation Notes: Any untranslated SFX or text is just that, SFX. I don't like translating it, don't like making up equivalent noises, and really, not many people really read the little translation notes at the bottom of the effect most of the time anyway. Translator Notes: Yes, right away Anma. O_O I love seeing Eureka angry. Though I guess this isn't a translation note, is it? Anyway, translating the whole "Limit of Questions is happening, must sacrifice self" thing is a little redundant; it'd be nice if they shortened it, especially since I have to look up the kanji every time. Enjoy!

Also, Renton is proving himself capable of providing half the DNA for a child as GAR as Ao now. Too bad that's an AU, or else maybe Ao would like him a lot more. Hell, I like him a lot more, and I already liked him a ton to begin with. Eureka has good taste; he might be a clown, but I'll take a Renton over a boring old bishounen any day.

10,000 Hits and AO Scanlation Project Update

Wow, I'm seriously amazed we reached this benchmark so fast. It's only been a little over three months since I started this site, so I have to say I'm pretty touched. Whether it was for the reviews, the Eureka Seven manga, or just by chance, thanks so much for stopping by!

Since I'm really happy about this, and because I've more or less found twenty people interested, I will be scanlating Katou Yuuichi's Astral Ocean manga after all. Details for the project will be announced by the end of New Order Volume 1. Chapters four and five of NO should be out this week and early next, respectively.

Thanks for your support, everyone, and I hope you'll look forward to both manga releases and reviews in the future; I hope I can improve and become a much more satisfying writer for when we hopefully meet again at 50,000!

Eureka Seven: Astral Ocean Scanlation Project

I've posited this question in a couple of places, but I've recently got a hold of three volumes of Katou Yuuichi's Astral Ocean manga; I'm willing to scanlate the volumes from now until the end of the run if there's enough people willing to read it. I know that AO gets a lot of flak in and out of the fanbase, and scanlation/translation is far too much work if no one cares to read it, seeing as I'm only one person doing a group's job on a weekly basis. However, I'm more than happy to put in the effort if I know that there are fans who wish to read past the first five chapters. I'm not asking for huge numbers either; if I can get assurances that about twenty or thirty people would want to see this happen, I'm overjoyed to get it done.

If you are interested in this, please leave a comment or otherwise let me know, and I'll think about taking up the project after I'm done with NO Vol. 1.

Well that wasn't so bad. I spent only seven hours translating rather than the usual couple of days. The cleaning was hellish though, but it was worth it; I hope you enjoy the resulting higher quality scans!

Translator Notes: You'll notice that Eureka uses more or less the same speech from Chapter 1 for the little memory-transfer ritual. It's about word-for-word identical in the Japanese version, but previously I used "Please dream for a little bit longer" whereas this time I used "Please sleep a while longer" for variation purposes. The closer translation is the latter one, in any case.

Translation Notes: My goal with this is to make the context as accessible as possible in English. Japanese is a tricky language to translate because it's so different grammatically, so I've made some adjustments. Some of those changes are wording, such as translating "kudan no genkai" as "The Limit of Questions" or "memoria" as "Memory Fragments", for the sake of making the text easier to grasp. Occasionally I used a more appropriate English expression than the literal Japanese, such as the literal "I will go to meet her" to "I'll go after her". I hope this makes it a bit easier to read. If you want more literal translations, the /a/ version will do that (and it has much better scans, I'm cleaning them so I can tell the difference in quality). In any case, I hope you enjoy the second chapter!

Scanlation: Kōkyōshihen Eureka Seven New Order - 1

This is what translation looks like when you only know 200 kanji; that monster is 2,000 pages long, and yes, it's a LOT more work to find what you want compared to an English dictionary.

In any case, it was long and difficult, and it is 20 minutes before 6 AM, but I finally finished the first chapter of New Order. This is the first time I have ever scanlated anything completely on my own before, though I have to apologize for the scan quality (my scanner is ancient and makes everything look more pixelated than it really is) as well as for the shoddy cleaning job. It is midterms week after all. I'm about ready to collapse, seeing as this is my fifth all-nighter all week, but I hope the translations do the manga justice regardless. Don't forget, a group scanlated version is on the way soon (I will be working as a translator for that project as well)!

Just a quick note, the first chapter is a bit of a situational chapter; it explains the context of what's going on and why, but all the really good stuff is actually in chapter 2 and beyond. Still, I hope you enjoy Miyama's work (he LOVES transparent speech bubbles; those things are hellishly hard to edit), if only because we get to see Renton and Eureka again!
