It was only a matter of time before Ozaki-sensei bared her teeth.
It's almost cruel how spirited and cute the majority of this chapter is. It's almost dreamlike, really, the time that Nanao spends with the Suzumuras, and their summer vacation together is so mundane that it's hard to remember who's manga this is. There's a makeshift family feel to the whole thing that's really sweet, and you don't need Nanao's narration to express the feelings he and Rio are sharing. That they've fallen in love is natural after all this ethereal time together under the same roof, so it's only that more ominous when signs that things aren't right start showing up. It's difficult enough knowing that the trio of children have been spotted together by classmates, or that Suzumura's father never shows up despite having promised, but of course the most jarring revelation is the secret of Suzumura's garden. I suspected this might be the case when Nanao mentioned the strange smell, but now that we're sure there really is someone buried there, we have to wonder just what is going on. Who does the body belong to? Did Suzumura know about it? Is this that missing father or mother?
