How I hate to see old friends go.
There's not a whole lot to be said for the finale of Deadman Wonderland. This isn't a series that I can muse about for years and years because its greatness doesn't come from complexity, it comes from simplicity. Perhaps that's not readily apparent when the series has been so crazy and over the top from chapter one, but in the end, the theme of insanity was about as clear cut as anything else, and the emotions involved this chapter come from the relative quietness, from the relief of seeing it end and knowing that somehow, everything will be alright. It's definitely what Ganta and Shiro deserve after all their misery, and while neither they nor the other Deadmen can ever forget what they went through, they can at least move on with the strength that they've gathered while in DW. It's like that saying about courage; it's not being afraid, but being afraid and going forward anyway that matters. And that, to me, is a perfect ending for a series as twisted and grotesque as this.
